Protect Children from Social Media
Earlier this month, a European Union Special Panel released a report that advocates for banning social media for children under thirteen. The report claims that the rapid growth of social media companies has reshaped how children interact with the world. The report states that until companies can prove that social media does not negatively affect children, they should restrict access to children. Earlier this year, a bill was introduced in the Wisconsin legislature that seeks to protect children from the harms of social media; Evers failed to sign it. While we believe parents bear the responsibility to raise their children, we also know that government has a role in partnering with parents to protect children from potential dangers. We hope that the legislature will re-introduce legislation to protect children on social media and that the bill will be signed into law.
