I write to you with an incredibly grateful heart.

As many of you know, not long ago, the plane carrying me home from the La Crosse County Lincoln Day Dinner lost power and made an emergency landing in Lake Wausau.

After landing, we called 911. As the plane began to submerge, the pilot and I exited the aircraft. We eventually swam to a shallow area, where we waited until emergency responders reached us by boat.

By the grace of God, we made it out safely with only minor injuries.

I am deeply grateful to the pilot, the Wausau Fire Department, law enforcement, and all of the first responders who came to our aid so quickly. They got us off the water and to Aspirus Wausau Hospital, where we received excellent care.

I also want to thank my wife, Chris, my family, and all of you. The prayers, kind words, and encouragement we have received from across Wisconsin and around the country have meant more than I can express.

An experience like this reminds you just how precious life is and strengthens my resolve to make every day count. I am more determined than ever to get back to work, earn your trust, and fight for you as Wisconsin’s next governor.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support.

I love Wisconsin, and I’m going to keep giving everything I have to this state.
