As we gather with family, friends, and neighbors this week to celebrate Independence Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the incredible blessings of liberty and freedom we enjoy as Americans.

This Fourth of July carries special meaning as our nation celebrates America's 250th birthday. For two and a half centuries, the American experiment has endured because of the courage and vision of our Founding Fathers, who established a nation unlike any other — one built on the principles of liberty, freedom, and self-government.

Since then, every generation has been called to preserve those ideals while striving to build a more perfect Union. Through sacrifice, perseverance, and faith in the American Dream, we have expanded opportunity, overcome great challenges, and strengthened the greatest experiment in self-government the world has ever known. From our Founding Fathers to the Greatest Generation and every generation since, Americans have always sought to leave this country stronger than they found it.

Now that responsibility belongs to us. We cannot allow socialism to erode the values of faith, family, freedom, personal responsibility, and limited government that have made America the greatest nation in the history of the world. Our duty is to preserve our values, defend the blessings of liberty, and leave an even stronger America for our children and grandchildren.

Whether you are attending a local parade, hosting a backyard barbecue, or watching fireworks over the lake, I hope you have a wonderful and safe holiday.
